With the holidays upon us, we’re in a very festive mood here at TripAdvisor this week. In the spirit of the holidays, for you our travelers, we’re excited to deliver an exciting gift. In partnership with Facebook, today we’re thrilled to make TripAdvisor instantly personalized for you!
What is this new gift you ask?
The new integration with Facebook will help you uncover the valuable and trusted advice of your friends when researching vacations on TripAdvisor—from seeing your friends’ travel maps, to their favorite places and even their reviews!
Here’s a peek at it (but also check out TripAdvisor.com to see it for yourself!)
We think this is really cool because we’re making the travel planning process easier, more social and more fun than ever before… but you still may be wondering how all this works.
It’s simple. All you have to do is be logged into Facebook when visiting TripAdvisor.com, and you’ll instantly see your Facebook friends’ recent travel activities, most popular travel destinations on a map, and all the exciting places around the world where your friends have been!
What’s more, you now have three levels of travel inspiration:
• See a map on the homepage revealing where your friends have been, to inspire you to visit a new destination.
• Visit a destination’s tourism page on TripAdvisor to uncover all the valuable, insightful comments written by people you know.
• When researching a particular hotel, restaurant, or attraction, you’ll first see reviews written by your friends about that place.
You can learn more about today’s news on the Facebook Blog and on TripAdvisor.com. We think you’ll enjoy seeing your friends’ reviews and experiences on TripAdvisor, but if at anytime you want to opt-out of instant personalization, you can do so from your Facebook privacy settings page.
We hope you’ll enjoy this new feature and use it to plan your upcoming trips.
We’ve included more screen shots below. Happy holidays and happy traveling!

Looks like a great idea, but my concerns as a travel advisor remain with Tripadvisor.
It’s just this:
Too many people write unfair things about hotels because they are supporting or even owning rival establishments.
They take alternative email addresses so the comments look genuine.
If Tripadvisor could stop this a good site would be a great one
Hi Ian,
Thanks for your comment. We have numerous measures that ensure the legitimacy of reviews on TripAdvisor, including sophisticated automated tools on the site, and a large, passionate community of 40 million monthly visitors that help flag suspicious content. What’s more, our team of quality assurance specialists also screen suspicious reviews.
Our advice to travelers when reading through the reviews of a property is to throw out the anomalies that appear overly critical or overly complimentary. What is left is the collective wisdom of the community.

Thanks,

Thank you for that. We are in the process of choosing our summer vacation and TA will always be high on our list of sources to check. I’m sure now that the principle of losing the best and the worst because both are to be taken with a pinch of salt is a good one.
I really like the Facebook integration with Trip Advisor. What a great idea!
