Great news!!! I have installed the app already! But it doesn’t show as the example above. No totale milage, no list of cities I’ve visited nor % of the world traveled. Anyone any idea how I can get this as the example above?
Hi Kristine – Thanks for your message. For the Cities I’ve Visited app to fully appear on your Facebook Timeline, please go back into the app and pin at least one new city.
Thanks for you tip!
I pinned a new city. Still don’t see total miles. How do I start counting total miles? I looked in the FAQ too. Thx
Hi Donn – Would you be able to try adding a new city to your map from the following link: http://apps.facebook.com/tripadvisortravelmap/ If that doesn’t work, please send screen shots and details on what you’re seeing to socialmedia@tripadvisor.com, and we’ll share them with the team for review. Thanks!
That’s seems really great, just wondering what are you going to do with the other fantastic Facebook app Travel IQ
I enjoy using Cities I’ve Visited, but today it requires me to install Facebook Timeline to continue using. I find Timeline cluttered and will not be moving to Timeline. Will Tripadvisor be offering an option for Cities I’ve Visited users who are not on Timeline?
Hi Jeff – Thanks for your comment. As Facebook continues to rollout their new profile to all users, the Cities I’ve Visited app does now require users have Timeline.
+1 timeline sucks and now I can’t use the old cities i’ve visited
I completely agree! I also lost my old cities I’ve visited and I do not want to switch to new timeline! I wrote to TripAdvisor to ask if there is any other possibility to access it, because like 3 weeks ago I could still see my map over TripAdvisor directly now also this is not possible anymore.
(
Hi – I enjoyed using CIV on Facebook but don’t want to use FB “Timeline”. In that case, I assume I can no longer use CIV?
Hi Al – Thanks for your comment. Facebook will soon require all users to update their profiles to Timeline. Because of this, the Cities I’ve Visited app does now require travelers to have Timeline, too.
Hello there
I wanna know If I can get the app of the cities I have been in the map in my Facebook timeline.
Thank for ur help
Hi Lissett – Thanks for you comment. For Cities I’ve Visited to fully appear on your Facebook Timeline, please go back into the app and add a new city to your map from the following link: http://apps.facebook.com/tripadvisortravelmap/
To whom it may concern,
I have added the FB timeline however I am now receiving an error when accessing Tripadvisor- Cities I’ve travelled.

Can you please help or I will have to not use your app anymore.
Many thanks
Matt
Hi Matt – Thank you for your message. The team has been alerted to this error message. In the meantime, you should be able to access the app using Firefox.
How do I revive all the cities I’ve previously pinned for display on timeline…not planning to re-pin as it’s now a more arduous process
thanks
Hi – Thanks for your comment. In order to have all of your previously added locations show up on your Facebook Timeline, you would need to re-pin each destination. It might be possible to add in destinations pinned before Timeline was installed in the future though, so please stay tuned!
Are you serious?
How does the CIV integrates with the new Timeline then? If every user will have to re-pin everything they already pinned in the past in the CIV to the new Timeline Map, users will just become frustrated and stop using both.
Very not clever marketing, imho.
Hi – Thanks for your comment. We understand your frustration and are working on ways to have past pins display. While the functionality is currently not available, we’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates or changes.
Wow…you’ve really messed up what was a neat thing. I have to repin all of my 400+ cities? CIV just jumped the shark… So long.
Is it possible to add this app to a wordpress.com blog (that isn’t self hosted)?
Hi – Thanks for your comment. If you click “Add map to your website or blog” on the following link, you’ll be able to share your map to your blog by using the generated code: https://apps.facebook.com/tripadvisortravelmap/
thanks
Is there a way to add a date to a city visited so that it shows up in the right month on the Facebook timeline?
Hi Karen – This functionality isn’t currently available, but we’ll be sure to share your feedback with the team. Thanks!
Hi all,
the little ‘Cities you’ve visited’ tumbnail on my timeline (just under the big photo and next to friends and photo’s) used to show me a little picture of my travel map. Now suddenly this changed into a picture of one of the places I’ve visited. I tried adding a new pin to my map to get it back to the little map again but that didn’t work. How do I get my little map back??!!
Wanted to add a screenshot to show what I mean, but that doesn’t work in this forum.
Any help is welcome
What if I do not want to upgrade to FB Timeline and yet want to use the ‘Cities I’ve Visited’ app? I personally am not comfortable with the Timeline but would like to use the app in the same manner as I’ve been doing it for the last few years.
Thanks for your comment. As Facebook continues to rollout their new profile to all users, the Cities I’ve Visited app does now require users have Timeline, too.
Thanks. I wouldn’t want Timeline or CIV App-Timeline package. According to me, the user must always have a choice to use either CIV App with normal profile or CIV-Timeline together.
I may never be moving to Facebook Timeline. If Timeline remains a requirement may no longer use your application. That would be regrettable, as I enjoyed it as it was.
Thanks for your comment – we appreciate your feedback. Since Facebook will soon require all users to update their profiles to Timeline, the Cities I’ve Visited app now requires travelers to have Timeline, too.

Hi Kristine – Thank you for your comment. We had the team look into this and everything should now be working correctly. Would you be able to try pinning another destination and let us know if you see the correct image? Thanks!
Thanks for your reply. The thing is, I don’t want an photo to show up there, I just want the little map with my pinned cities as it was before. I have tried pinning new cities, I have de-installed and re-installed the app. I have removed my ‘pinned PLACES’ from timeline (as they are the problem!) etc. I have tried everything but it is still the same. What happens is, when I pin a PLACE (NOT a CITY) and give that place a grade (good, medium…) the CIV app automatically puts and image of that place in the little square under my big photo on my timeline (next to friends and photos). Even if afterwards I pin a new city, the little map doesn’t return and the picture of the last pinned PLACE remains. How do I get my little map back??? Can I undo pinning all the PLACES and how do I do that, and will my little map come back then.
I just like the little map on the top of my timeline as people immediately know that is my travel map. Now with the stupid picture appearing there, it is not obvious for people to see what that is.
PLEASE HELP!!
Thank you
Kristine
Thanks for the additional information, Kristine. I followed up with the team again, and unfortunately, this is currently the way that Facebook displays images for all apps. Because of this, there isn’t a way to select the travel map as your main image, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates that come out in the future. -Amanda
That’s a real pity
((. But thank you for your time and hope they can fix this. I should never have started with rating places, then this would not have happened as it was fine before I did that.
Recently, my little CIV travel map beneeth my cover picture on my timeline has been replaced by a picture of one of the PLACES I have pinned (an I say PLACES NOT CITIES). The thing is, I don’t want a photo to show up there, I just want the little map with my pinned cities as it was before. I have tried pinning new cities, I have de-installed and re-installed the app. I have removed my ‘pinned PLACES’ from timeline (as they are the problem!) etc. I have tried everything but it is still the same. Even if afterwards I pin a new city, the little map doesn’t return and the picture of the last pinned PLACE remains. It is always a picture of the last PLACE I’ve pinned, so pinning new PLACES give a new picture every time and even if afterwards I pin a new CITY the map is not coming back. How do I get my little map back??? Can I undo pinning all the PLACES and how do I do that, and will my little map come back then.

Has the issue with the old pinned cities been solved? or do we have to re-pin all cities? I can’t even remember some places i have visited and this map was my record if those visits!
Hi Sandra – Thanks for your comment. While the past pins functionality is currently not available, we’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates or changes.
I can’t believe that TA thought that people would want to waste their time re-pinning hundreds of cities all over again. At least there are other map sites available.
Is there a way to have TripAdvisor Cities I’ve Visited automatically merge with the Facebook Map?
Hi Amelia – Thanks for your comment. The Facebook map cannot currently be integrated with the Cities I’ve Visited app, but we’ll be sure to share any updates in the future.
The old CIV app on facebook used to let you view your friends maps, but now just shows a list of places. Is this available somewhere else, as this was really useful to see friends who had been to places you might be interested in. If this feature is no longer available, then you should seriously consider re-introducing it.
Hi Chris – Thanks for your comment. We’re working on re-releasing this feature soon. Keep an eye out for it!
Awesome – thanks!
Why is the Facebook app forcing me to give it access to my e-mail address? I really don’t want e-mails about my friends’ travel, and I think it’s obnoxious that it shows an error if I tell it that it can’t use my e-mail.
Hi – Thanks for your comment. If you’d rather not receive emails about you friends’ travels, you can unsubscribe from TripAdvisor emails at any time. Here’s a link to unsubscribe: http://www.tripadvisor.com/MemberProfile-cs
Hello Amanda,
Is it possible to still use the app while denying it use of my e-mail address in the first place?
Thank you,
Rose
We do currently require all users to provide their email address to use the Cities I’ve Visited app.
Hi-I used to use “Cities I’ve visited” and had over 300 places listed. I heard that if I want to use it on FB I have to add them all again-that can’t be true? If it is true-can you send me a list of the places? Honey
Hi – Thanks for your comment. You do currently need to re-pin destinations to have past pins display. Is there something specific you would like to have show on your Timeline (Percent of World Visited, etc.), as adding a few new pins will make this information appear.
I don’t understand-sorry. Do I have to re-pin ALL of my destinations or just some to get the rest to appear? I don’t have a list of all those places (that’s what I used your site for)-can you send me a list of the places I already pinned? Thanks. Honey
You can view all of the cities you have pinned by visiting the Cities I’ve Visited app. Here’s a link: https://apps.facebook.com/tripadvisortravelmap/?fb_source=timeline
This worked last week — but niw I can’t access Cities I’ve visited at all.. Not thru facebook, not thru your website, not thru the i ternet. I get the following error messages:
The mobile version of the app “Cities I’ve Visited” is unavailable because it is misconfigured. It appears to be caught in a redirect loop.
Or: Too many redirects
Hi Diane – Thanks for your comment. We’re currently working to fix a bug that is affecting the map on mobile and iPad devices. Please try accessing your map from a non-mobile device here: https://apps.facebook.com/tripadvisortravelmap/?fb_source=timeline Thanks!
Wow, how to really annoy the hell out of your users in one quick step. So you have to use timeline on facebook and you can’t update it to add in your existing pins. How many people do you think will be saying bye bye???
Like I mentioned earlier, at least I might say bye-bye and I am glad their are others with similar opinion.. I am just hoping TripAdvisor changes its mind and allows its users to use the application without Timeline.
Hi. I used to see the Percent of World Visited and Furthest Cities Visited on my Facebook timeline, however, I don’t know why I cannot see them anymore. Can you help me to fix this one? Many thanks.
Hi – Please try clicking on the Cities I’ve Visited box in your Facebook tabs (right below your cover photo), as Facebook suppresses the recent activity after some time. Thanks!
If I add the app to FB my previous 1180 places are gone; the app starts with ZERO.
The advise to add one place to get the old pins back does not work, result is ONE place visited.
Do you really expect me to repin 1180 places?
Give back the old app in Tripadvisor only.
Hi Kees – Thanks for your comment. It displays this way only on your Facebook Timeline. You can still view all of your pins within the app here: https://apps.facebook.com/tripadvisortravelmap/?fb_source=timeline
Problem seems to be fixed. All previous pins are visible now. There is however a discrepancy in the number. FB says 1216 pins, while there were only 1173 pins set at that moment.
Hi again – The team is working on fixing this. It should be up and running properly soon!
I’m not able to edit a pinned location. When I click on a pin, the bubble that appears is blank, i.e., completely white.
Hi Elijah – Thanks for your comment. Please try editing your location again – it should work now!
The app was working perfectly fine with the old FB profile and if you look at metrics, a high number of users actually decided not to move onto Timeline (for as long as possible). What prevented you to keep supporting the old profile? Any maintenance/resource issues? From what I see, the new CIV is in effect a new app as it doesn’t even recompile the old date (pinned cities) from the earlier version. Then again, why not simply offering both? Has “big daddy FB” forced you to do so in an attempt to convert more users to their Timeline? Kindly let us know.
and… what if I don’t want to connect my facebook and tripadvisor page together? The point of my tripadvisor page was that it was anonymous I don’t want to share everything with my facebook friends. How can I use my tripadvisor map without logging in through facebook? Help!
Hi Julie – Thanks for your comment. The travel map on TripAdvisor.com is temporarily unavailable, but will be back soon. Please stay tuned!
TripAdvisor Cities I’ve Visited does not seem to integrate facebook’s profile map, or does it?
Hi – Thanks for your comment. The Facebook map cannot currently be integrated with the Cities I’ve Visited app, but we’ll be sure to share any updates in the future.
Count me as another aggravated TripAdvisor user. I have been using the map for years as a way to keep track of all the places I have visited. I was up to well over 800 locations, all over the world (I don’t know the exact number, since I can no longer access the map).
Then, without notice, the map was pulled. I understand that TripAdvisor is under no obligation to maintain this feature– but it would have been nice to get some advance notice, so I could have moved the data somewhere else.
Now, to get access to the old data, I understand my only choice is to move to FB Timeline. Even then, however, it seems uncertain as to whether or not I would be able to access my old data.
At the risk of understatement, this wasn’t the most customer-friendly move. Not only that, it disproportionately impacted heavy travelers who regularly consult (and contribute) to TripAdvisor– this that should be cultivated, not alienated.
Hi Wylie – The TripAdvisor map feature is temporarily on hiatus, as it is being updated – it should be back soon! In the meantime, you can still access your travel map and pinned locations by visiting our Cities I’ve Visited app: https://apps.facebook.com/tripadvisortravelmap/
that is a very weak explanation. you really dont care do you?
Hi Mark – The travel map can now be accessed in your TripAdvisor member profile. Here’s a link: http://www.tripadvisor.com/MemberProfile-cpt
I sent a long e-mail with technical problems to TripAdvisor support in mid February (with a follow-up e-mail two weeks later) but I have still not received any response from you and almost none of my problems have been solved either. My reference number is: ref:_00DA0I0Rf._500F09NcRd:ref
Will you ever respond or should I rather post some of my problems here to get some help? I have even considered to delete all my current information and re-pin everything (since one problem is that I cannot delete incorrect pins which is really annoying) but I don’t know how to delete it all and start fresh and that would be a tedious job so of course I’d prefer your help to fix the problems instead. Please advise!
Hi Anna – I’ve checked with the team on this, and you should now be able to delete pins. Would you be able to try it again? Thanks!
I have tried again, several times, but the city in question just reappears as a pinned city and it is also listed as a favourite and I can’t even remove that status. It seems to work at first and when I choose “remove this location” the city counter changes but only temporarily. As soon as I click on countries or places, it changes back to the previous number and the city is still pinned.
The other two places I’m unable to delete are even worse to get rid of since I’m not able to find the pins at all. I have zoomed in as much as possible on the map but the places are nowhere to find. Since it is not possible to get a list of all your countries, cities and places with tick-boxes once they have been pinned, there is no way to unpin a place if you cannot find the pin on the map. And even if you can, it is sometimes impossible to delete it as in the first issue described above. I would really appreciate if I could get in touch with your technical support and let them take a closer look at my map. Thanks!
Amanda – I’m still waiting for your response to my previous comment on April 29 since my problems unfortunately remain…
Hi Anna – Sorry for the delay. Would you be able to send your FBID and email address to socialmedia@tripadvisor.com so the team can look into this? Thanks.
Hello. I was editing my CIV app on my timeline the other day and clicked “hide from timeline” on section displaying pinned cities and percentage of the world traveled. However, I don’t want to hide them. Is there any way to bring them back so that they show up on my timeline again? They don’t even show up when I click the CIV link at the top of the app box. Thank you!
Hi Allie – I checked with the team on this and since this issue is on Facebook’s end, they shared the following instructions which may help: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9769085/how-to-unhide-user-removed-aggregations Thanks!
It worked! Thank you so much!
By the way – this is an awesome app.
I love the app, but I wish it were available on iPad, independently from facebook.
Any plans for this?
Also, Is there a way to enlarge the map to full screen? Sometimes that little box just isn’t good enough.
great job.
Hi Noel – No updates to share at the moment, but we appreciate your feedback – I’ll be sure to pass it along to the team! Thanks!
Hi,
Would using this app bump my account to the Facebook Timeline?
I have a regular non timeline account and would not like to have it converted to Timeline.
Please advice if using this app would force such a change!
Hi Sahil – Yes – as Facebook continues to roll out their new profile to all users, the Cities I’ve Visited app does now require users have Timeline, too.
When I copied and pasted the code to my website, the city pins appear offset to the north east. Why is this please, and how do I get the pins into the right place on the map?
Hi Ray – Thanks for your comment. I’ve checked with the team, and this is a bug that we’re currently working on fixing.
Is there a way I can use the app via my iPad? I have the actual TripAdvisor app installed already but the Cities I’ve visited function isn’t on there.
Whenever I try to use it through Facebook it says unavailable on mobile devices. I hardly ever use a desktop PC but want to use the app.
Hi Matty – There isn’t a mobile app for Cities I’ve Visited at the moment, but we’ll be sure to share any updates here!
Hello
I am unable to share my map vias the timeline and it doesn’t show up as it should appear.
Most cities I pinned before updating to timeline.
Has this problem been fixed yet?
I really want to share my map via timeline, but the button doesn’t work.
Thanks, Sophia
Hi Sophia – There are no updates to share at the moment, however this is a bug that the team is currently working to fix.
Cracow and Gdansk don’t work on the map. Do you know why?
Hi – The team is currently working to fix this bug. Please stay tuned. Thanks!
I hate to be the wet blanket, but I was shocked to find that trip advisers figured out who I was on facebook. Kind of creepy. If I wanted that, I would have linked them on my own.
Hi Joe – If you’d like, you can disconnect your TripAdvisor and Facebook accounts. Details can be found in our Help Center by searching “disconnect.” Here’s a link to the center: http://www.tripadvisor.com/help
Ok, so the big changes to tripadvisor / cities I’ve visited have had time to settle for a few months now, and obviously a few tweaks and fixes have been made.
In general, there’s some nice ideas with the badges, and that you can kind of compare your friends achievements to yours. However, there are a lot of bugs that need sorting out which have been introduced since the changes. Below are those that I find most annoying:
On both Facebook cities I’ve visited, and tripadvisor.com, almost every time I go in to it (about once a fortnight now, because it’s become so poor), I notice I lose 1 or 2 cities pinned. I had 352 at one stage. I’m now down to 341 without having done anything…! Where are my pins going?
On facebook cities I’ve visited, looking at friends maps, for every friend their pins are clearly all out of place for every location. Clearly a map problem since moving to bing maps (seriously bad call).
On facebook cities I’ve visited, when comparing or just wanting to look at friends maps, you can’t zoom and view pins without clicking and opening to a new page that shows a map with orange stars rather than pins. Clicking on those stars shows a message “single pin viewer bubble text” instead of what has been pinned. What’s that about?!? Not very helpful.
On Tripadvisor.com, it’s more difficult to find your friends maps, and compare to yours. Why aren’t they visible in their profile?
Also, on tripadvisor.com, pins from my map are missing when viewed on that map profile where you can view your friends maps.
I’ve also noticed that pins are often all over the place. Goa in central Africa, Sydney in the middle of the ocean, etc.
Overall, whilst there has been intentions to improve features, it has massively impacted the user experience, which is a shame, as it was my favourite app that I would frequently use. Now I rarely use because I find it so frustrating.
Can you please advise if any of this issues are currently being investigated with a view to resolving them?
Hi Chris – Thanks for your message – we’ve shared it with the team for review. They’re looking into the bugs you’ve mentioned and are constantly working to improve the app, so we appreciate your feedback on this.
Why can’t i accept being a travel advisor for 2 of my friends on facebook?
It just goes to my travel map when i click accept
Hi Jon – Thanks for message. The team is currently working to improve this. We appreciate your feedback.
What’s with Facebook/Foursquare Check-Ins? Will there be a feature that will import these Check-Ins and pin all corresponding Cities on my Travel Map?
Hi – No updates to share at the moment, but we appreciate your feedback on this. We’ll be sure to share it with the team.
When I originally commented I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on every time a comment is added I recieve
4 emails with the same comment. Perhaps there is
an easy method you can remove me from that service? Appreciate it!
Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so
she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it
with someone!
Hi, I have CIV in my timeline favorites (a little map below the timeline cover) I want my friends to see my map by clicking on that picture…is there any setting which I have to apply to enable this feature?
Hi David. No setting on your end needed. Your friends just need to click into the app from there in order to see it. Let me know if that solves it!
Hi,
When I clicked publish map to your wall, the map and the cities that I’ve visited are still not reflecting on my timeline. Please advise how can these show up on ny timeline. It already showed up before but I accidentally clicked “remove/hide from my timeline” and it does not showed up already even though I tried to remove and reinstall the app.
Thanks
Aw, this was an incredibly nice post. Taking the time and
actual effort to create a very good article… but what can I say… I hesitate a
whole lot and never manage to get anything done.
Great article. I am going through many of these issues as well.
