We created the TripAdvisor blog as a place to share with you, our fans and community members around the world. We love hearing what you think about the things we write, and we will respond if we feel there’s something we can add to the discussion. At the same time, please understand that everyone on the blog team has a “day job” at TripAdvisor, so we may not always be able to respond right away.
We moderate blog comments and will remove inappropriate ones if necessary. Before you comment on a post, take a moment to think of these simple commenting guidelines:
- Family friendly. If you wouldn’t say it in front of your mom and kids (assume the kids are under 13), then don’t say it here. This includes profanity, racial and ethnic slurs, swear words, and encouragement of illegal activities.
- Relevant to the post being commented on. If the post is about finding the best restaurant in Italy, don’t post about your frustrations with a hotel in Hawaii.
- Respectful of your fellow commenters, respectful of TripAdvisor. We are pretty good at spotting rudeness and personal attacks, even when they are cloaked in attempted humor.
- No solicitation, advertising, or spam. We can spot it. Believe us.
- No customer support pleas, please. The folks behind the TripAdvisor blog cannot resolve customer service issues. Our customer support teams are specialized, and you must contact them via the Help Center. If you are an owner, please register as an owner and visit your Business Resource Center page to contact the right person.

Yes, I’m wondering if any of you out there have a business that has been dished on Trip Advisor? I have and the comments that the individual wrote were completely false.
Trip Advisor, do you think it responsible to leave comments up forever? Don’t you think there ought to be a forum for those of us that have been give negative reviews to be able to defend ourselves?
I am a small business owner and your service does not always feel supportive.
Just saying…perhaps you could provide a service for those of us who work very hard and have to deal with clientele that don’t always behave well or tell the truth.
Hi Kai,
If you have received a review that you disagree with, we encourage you to write a management response and give your take on the situation. Management responses give properties the chance to add their perspective to a review for potential guests to see, and also to demonstrate their customer service. Many properties use management responses to reply to positive reviews, too.
And while older reviews do remain on the TripAdvisor site, they have less weight in your popularity index over time. Here’s a link to our management responses resources: http://cdn.tripadvisor.com/pdfs/email/HowToGuide_ManagementResponse_EN.pdf
Thanks!
what amanda is saying to kai is completely false!
yes you can post a mgmt repsonse but it has to be reviwed by trip advisor first, and their criteria does not allow you to express anything derogatory against their unethical practices nor the practices of the reviewer. which is such a double standard.
here trip advisor goes and posts business names and info for their profit without ownership consent. allowing the public to then maliciously trash these businesses (as their criteria for negative review posts are much more lenient than for the postive posts). they are playing an implemental role in making your business look very bad and lose profits. but god forbid you return the favour and post any deragatory comments about them on what is suppossed to be your freedom of perpective!! NOT THE CASE..
All hotel and restaurant owner have to start submitting formal complaints to the FTC:

Enough is enough, they are biting the hand that feeds them by profitting off of our suffering. They do not care about the welfare of your business, quite the oppossite! The more you are negatively reviewed the better for them. And there is now suspicion that they manipulate the reviews to be mostly negative.
Here are some other commentaries that i found online that support…
